We're on the same page. So, what's your take on the latest price whiplash? What explains these dramatic moves?

I know what you mean, it is not v. insightful, but is it really that egregious? It says 2022 price levels will be avoided (obvs), and simply remarks about low storage levels, without being alarmist. There are worse culprits

That guy is a total POS. His creepy pod came up in a random search once, so I listened in for 2 mins. He suggested that revealing the ID of victims was the biggest trauma trigger, so why not just stop releasing files & 'avoid the problem entirely' or somesuch. Revolting psychopath

America’s cold weather, combined with Trump’s Greenland threats and Europe’s low gas storage, presented such an opportunity.

The price surge has been driven by real-world events, but massively amplified by the sheer number of traders now trying to cash in.

Diversification of pipeline gas & LNG suppliers (eg North & East Africa), revisit domestic undeveloped resources while (most importantly) doubling down on gas replacement tech for demand reduction, ie electrification, grids, efficiency etc.

Does Europe really want to return a supplier that has weaponised energy as an extension of war, and then revelled in the consequences inflicted on civilian populations?
January 23, 2026 at 9:02 AM
But Gazprom's schadenfreude strengthens the view that this would constitute a huge geopolitical concession rather than a neutral economic decision or pragmatic necessity.

A return of Russian gas supplies to Europe remains a distinct possibility in any future Ukraine 'peace' settlement.

There is a pragmatic view that this would be a necessary step towards normalisation of relations, esp. if sales revenue contributes to Ukraine reconstruction.
