As climate change accelerates, once-in-a-generation environmental hazards are becoming more frequent. Most studies examine these hazards as isolated events, but new research shows how they stack up most often in resource-limited areas.

New research finds “sunny day” tides now flood some N.C. streets a third of the year, far beyond tide-gauge estimates, corroding infrastructure as towns weigh costly fixes.

A new report from USGS details the historical geological event caused by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina and the bureau's response.

By January 2025, the bureau had compiled an inventory of more than 2,200 landslides.
