Heh. It will be as successful as all of their other attempts. Way to fail again, Microsoft!
How about getting out of your own way, start helping people use Firefox, a browser that will actually help people do the things your lip service espouses?

From all reports, except one disgruntled ex employee, Sven has the support of nearly all of Larian’s staff. Using an available tool when hitting a tough spot is a good thing. Not using that tool when it would help is stupidity. AI is here to stay. We don’t have to like it, but we cannot stop it.

Ronald Reagan and his puppeteers are the reason the Cheeto is despoiling the Oval Office today. Reagan was the first visible node of a cancer that threatens to be terminal.

Strongly regional, sometimes even as isolated as specific neighborhoods.

Hmm… are you removing out conscious from the universe? I mean to say, isn’t everything defined and limited to the laws of physics, quantum, Newtonian, or otherwise?
March 20, 2025 at 9:13 PM
I am not saying that ChatGPT or the current generation of LLMs is conscious. I am simply taking the position that when we can no longer tell if something is conscious or not, should we not then consider that thing as being conscious?

Protective, comfy, and basically necessary?

Agreed, particularly on a social media platform limited to a few hundred characters, to be sure. But it is a good thing to ponder, I think.

Also, the idea simply made me think. There is prolly a shit ton of confirmation bias with that study, and I would love to see the criteria and someone else confirm the findings, but the idea is novel.

I was speaking in the much more expansive sense. Do you think our consciousness derives from some transcendental place, or is it a function of the laws of nature, chemistry, biology, etc? If the latter, then can you define, purely subjectively, obv, when you think something is conscious?

I am literally sitting in the woods right now.

Are we so filled with hubris that we believe only our reality gets to define consciousness and life? Is it possible for an AI, then, to ever deserve rights or consideration as a conscious entity?
March 18, 2025 at 2:08 PM
respond like they experience emotion and empathy. Are those people not conscious or fully human? If an LLM can mimic human emotion and empathy, is it not possible to argue that it has the some level of consciousness?
March 18, 2025 at 2:08 PM
But why? Understanding that GPT does not yet have autonomy and 'consciousness', why, of something appears to be conscious, has the aspects of empathy, could we not consider it conscious? Are you implying that AI will never have true consciousness? Or is it a case of 'not yet'?
