I agree. To me it seems pretty obvious it should work like unity's but seems to almost work like it does simply to be different than unity.

I'm not sure what you expected.. I mean it's made in an older version. Same thing happens with most examples in unity and unreal, even if they "conver" them

I can't say it won't be hard, it took me a couple full weeks to get moving on Linux, even longer to feel comfortable. If you want a "kitchen sink" system for win refugees you can try Zorin OS, or omarchy. Zorin is made for windows users and omarchy gives you a taste of how different Linux can be

That said there are a million other distros out there, personally I use a flavor of fedora called Nobara, which is made for games and has mods for that. I think you are approaching this in a Windows mindset, and Linux is not Windows. It works differently, and much more is possible

Kubuntu imo is a bad choice. It seems like it is 'just a new flavor of Ubuntu" but that's not really how it works. I have a laptop sold by them and I dropped it almost immediately. It would have been better to work in Ubuntu like epic suggested, they are not the same thing.

Dupe and put it screen left. That would be the easiest way.. wonder if you could manage it with a shader?

I'm not sure what you mean.. unity is only live linking props. Changing code is another matter because it often breaks the system. Godot has a lesser version that's much more annoying imo, there is a remote tab for the node tree and it shows you the realtime nodes etc.

Look up WSL. Runs Linux in Windows. It's not quite as good as straight Linux but it's better than native Windows

There are many many Linux distros that are great. If you are familiar with those than by all means. If gaming/dev is a thought I can also recommend a fedora distro called "Nobara" it's made by glorious egg roll, who makes the popular GE proton stuff. A lot of game related tweaks and works quite well

I agree, but it an easier and more plausible option for those who can't afford a Linux native port to get introduced to the steamdeck and Linux market. A way to see how much interest is there and to push for a reason for a full port.

Native Linux builds is def not viable, but proton compatible should be without much effort. It shouldn't require anything special, and shouldn't leave much performance on the table.

Just thought I'd mention there is a browser version of godot, with some missing features you could try if is not working in Chrome

Yeah I mean that goes for most software these days. Saas has done it's job forming habits and many people can't just switch when the fees start creeping up

Protondb states its great. I know plenty of people using steamdeck have run it with lowered settings, but I know at least one who had ray tracing and such running a desktop. I have a gaming laptop and while I could probably run it no problem, I'm sure the fans would be taking off

Random person here, but I've been using Linux as my daily and I'm an avid gamer. There very few games that don't just work, and even Less that don't work at all... Even Nvidia isn't an issue anymore. Been on Linux for 3yrs and the support setup and ease has improved so much in so little time

Not that I use bevy, I don't think many people do for serious projects since it's still in a very early place. Many breaking changes per update. Main benefit of using bevy would be performance. And that is mainly just ECS, and even then only if it works well for ECS.

I always thought issues I have in Linux didn't happen in Windows, until I returned to it for work... Where I realized I have just as many things go wrong on Windows, it just became so common (and never fixed) that I unconsciously knew what to do.

Have to say Linux has been rocking it for while a while. Def not the matured ecosystem Windows once was (to me is no longer). I switched to Linux 3 years ago, and after the first year of distro hopping and quirks to get things working... I've had surprisingly little issue since.

I mean unless you are going to try to sell us on the solution to the crisis is more screen shake... You... Aren't saying that.... Are you?
July 23, 2025 at 4:42 AM
I am also newish to godot but can't you just programmatically detach the player and attach it to the new scene as a child?

Enjoy your stay! Make sure you have some fresh maple syrup... Tiz the season for it!
