I get that "snail mail" isn't much of a thing anymore (though, with the way things are going, it should be), but when I put something out to be mailed, I expect the postman to pick. it. up.

Silly me.

As you cancel streaming services, here is a casual reminder that only 16% of Americans read for pleasure anymore, and your local library has hundreds or thousands of books you haven't read.

They would love to see you stop by and renew your library card.

Happy #WorldBookDay. I want a world in which every child has access to books they'll love.

🖐️ Librarian here! You are not bothering us, we love to know what our community wants to read and to be able to purchase it on their behalf! Please, ask us to buy books - it's literally our favorite thing to do!!!
If you want to read a new book coming out but don't want to buy it, a great thing you can do is ask your local library to order it. The more requests they get, the more likely they are to acquire it and then lots of people will get to read it who othewise wouldn't.

If you don’t have a local library card, it should be your New Year’s resolution to get one. It’s an easy resolution to keep and you’ll actually use it, trust me.

I’m a public librarian in a degenerating democracy, and I am pleading: Care about your library. Use it. See what programs and events it offers. And pay attention to its governing body. See who the trustees are. Consider running yourself. Libraries will need all the community support they can get. 📚
