My work one is a ROG Asus. It's okay but has some annoying jank. Hard to say it that's an indictment of Asus or just tech in general though

It's not "checking" though. It is simply producing a response that reasonably follows your prompt. If the prompt is along the lines of "I think you are wrong" then a reasonable response could well be "sorry, I was wrong" but that shouldn't be taken to mean it has actually "checked" its answer.
