They should have interfered in ongoing criminal proceedings? They had reason to doubt the DOJ's intent to prosecute at that time?

Releasing the file risks further injury to victims and hurts future prosecutions of the guilty. The only reason to release them is because the proper avenues for justice appear so compromised. It shouldn't be the first option.
