Also in the second batch of Spoonflower collection requests was something for Nursery/Baby &/or Kids. They were suggesting cutesy but mentioned quirky as an alternative - which is much more my thing. So it was an easy one to try out whether enough would fit together.

Spoonflower's second batch of collection requests (deadline Jan.15) included geometric - any era. To me, that in itself is somewhat telling, since geometry is beyond eras (which is why many cultures can lay claim to the same basics). It suggests they don't really want genuine geometrics at all.

Among the next batch of Spoonflower requests, one of the themes I chose to re-collect was the Irish / St.Patrick's Day one - because I already had quite a few relevant designs uploaded in previous collections and could fairly easily add others from my off-line images.

The last in that initial batch of collection requests from Spoonflower that I didn't attempt (or at least not within the deadline) is Cottage. By which they apparently meant floral, picnic check and ducks. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with this one. It probably does account for some decor.

Another of the Spoonflower collection requests that I didn't even attempt is "Modern" - by which they meant a whole range of things: vintage, mid-century, retro & future. Obviously future is entirely made up at each point in time; but each of these has that same intrinsic IP theft problem.

Today I thought I'd write about one of the recent Spoonflower collection requests which I didn't try to do - viz: sports.

I've actually had a sports & games collection from very early on in joining their print-on-demand website. But it's not the sort of thing they're looking for.

At the other end of the scale from "Basics" comes Spoonflower's request for faux patchwork (or cheater quilts). This would be where a mixture of designs are already put together within a single design as if someone had already pieced them together. So any quilting only involves following the lines.

Another of the themed collections that Spoonflower wanted in their first batch of requests was "Basics".

In the print/fabric design world those might be solids and dots and stripes and checks to be used as fillers alongside "hero" designs featuring something specific as a larger element.

Another of the themes for which Spoonflower wanted some collections was Valentine's. This has tended to be a standard contest request each year but previously for individual designs rather than a co-ordinating set. However, that repetition means that most long-standing people already have several.

I have switched over to doing more art again for the past week or so. Spoonflower claimed to want some themed collections from designers. Realistically they won't want mine but I decided to play along anyway (albeit somewhat belatedly, as it interrupted the other designs I was working on).

I'm not proficient (or prolific) at keeping up with social media. But I'm going to try to add some xmas carols - arranged to be in standard ballroom & latin dance styles - to my website:

My entry for the latest contest at Spoonflower is a fantasy adventure story in graphic toile (rather than novel) form. It's a re-arrangement of something I originally drew for a convention magazine (to fit around the text on successive pages):

There's a Mad Science project waiting for @thephilfoglio.bsky.social or someone else to have a crack at after Trump posted an AI image of him cosplaying with a red lightsaber (ie marking him as an evil Sith type, destroying democracies to enforce an authoritarian empire).

{ There were a lot of points to fit into this one. So it's long and, while it scans, the rhyming scheme is rather variable. }

Coffee or tea?
What will it be?
Maybe the answer is neither.
Water or milk,
things of that ilk
Can be much better than either.

Today's challenge was to write an epitaph; but they didn't state that it had to be for a person:

Born of hope, died of spite;
Now it is an X site.

It looks like there's some sort of #Invertefest going on. Sometimes I feel the need to tessellate (crustaceans, bugs, whatever), eg:

Spring:

An old folk measure of the spring
was in the daisies it would bring
and just how many could be found
within one footprint on the ground.

Once upon a time a word
was only something someone said.
Stories told were always heard
or drawn in picture form instead.

Then those pictograms in time
became a form of written sound.
Oral history in rhyme
replaced by records passed around.

The topic for today from the shared list was Earth. I don't know why they didn't put that for Earth Day (22nd April)! But that's where we are now.

Singing

Can you hold a tune at all?
Pitch control, its rise and fall?
Next the timbre of your voice
Could be an important choice.

Can you keep on time throughout?
Breath control, project don't shout?
Then enunciate each word
So that you'll be clearly heard.

Honest

"Honest as the day is long"
Doesn't mean they do no wrong.
What about the hours of night
When most things are out of sight?

As the year turns do they change?
Is there then a matching range:
Very good in summer sun;
Bad once winter has begun?
