Every grammatical source I'm aware of says that "none" can be treated as singular or plural. In math, where it's the sort of thing we often want to say, my sense is that "none are" is used more frequently.

I expect my representatives in Congress to be straight with those they represent and to tell the truth. This sort of lying is unacceptable.

You said that the provisions of the BBB would not add to the deficit. An estimate from the Wharton School of Business says that it will increase the deficit by over 3 trillion dollars in the next ten years.

I've gotta quibble with your Third Reich parallels here. Miller's clear counterpart is Goebbels — he even looks like him — and that guy didn't spend any time in Spandau.

…to the point where I was telling him that I was trying to discover a formula for computing the Milnor number of an isolated hypersurface singularity as the double limit of an integral of curvature on the Milnor fiber. And it seemed he understood every word! And I’m thinking who the f is this?

My wife & I (circa 1979) were waiting in line outside a theatre in Manhattan. I spotted a college acquaintance up ahead, and told Jan I was going to walk up there and talk to him. I started chatting with him, and eventually said that I was a Ph.D. student in math at Columbia.
