It would be an even better world if we didn't need to ask, or even consider, the religious affiliation of a politician.

Henri Cartier-Bresson used a Leica rangefinder camera with either 30mm or 50mm lenses, and Kodak film. An undeniably great photographer. He understood light and angles. A photograph is in the eye of the photographer, not the camera.

Or you could ask AI to reframe the picture and adjust the lighting

Starmer has no vision, no conviction. His supporters point to a bunch of small things he's getting right, but he's tanked all the big calls. Not restoring rights to protest, kicking the poor and the disabled, supporting zionists and Tr*mp, stupid red lines, lurching rightwing on immigration, PR...

For perspective, since the 19th century we've extracted c. 710 billion barrels of oil and we're currently using c. 35.4 billion barrels per year. Extractable reserves are variously estimated between 1.6-3.0 trillion barrels

2036. Hmmm Tr*mp's 4th term should be finishing at the end of the year. Still, he'll be PermaTrumpAI by then

But I've just skipped here from 2016. Thought after a decade the worst of everything might be over.

But then, he never made any ventilators. He probably imagined building them alongside vacuum cleaners and hairdryers but stumbled over the lack of knowledge or experience of the GMP regulatory framework for manufacturing medical devices.

Hey, he makes the bigliest fireworks. They have great explosions. The best explosions. He gave me a car, you know. I never drive it. It kept trying to tell me what to do. I only let Putin and Netanyahu tell me what to do.

And you need some anger management and to learn how to live in the real world

Don't reply. You're muted

At the top of the thread we were discussing well known figures largely, but not exclusively in the Arts: Musicians, actors, writers, poets, artists, who had declined awards in the national Honours System.

You can give your Tradesman 5 stars on CheckaTrade or Trustpilot or whatever if they're good

We're not talking Influencers and TikTok slebs. Nor are we talking Tech Bro billionaires, many (most?) of whom seem deranged. Peer recognition is not deference and I doubt that those on the lists expect deference.

Their lives appear glamorous but their jobs, mostly in performing and creating, need commitment and hard work. They have achieved self-actuation - the top of Maslow's hierarchy, but esteem and recognition are just one step below. Do you do well in your job? Don't you like "thanks and well done"

Many of those on this list have been recognised and honoured by their peers, which is clearly much more meaningful and reputable than inclusion on the government's tawdry and overly politicised 'honours'

Supermarkets can stock chlorinated chicken. We don't have to buy it. Then they'll stop stocking it.

Outrageous. Trump has told the UK that if we want tariff relief we need to buy chlorinated chicken from the US! 🤢🐔 How dare he try and impose poor food standards on Britain. Sign the petition to keep chlorine-washed chicken off our shelves:

You can also do it if you've got a few hundred million dollars of someone else's money to spend. You can then make your own several hundred million, fund yourself for a second term and leverage it to a few billions. Less risk.

The people don't elect Presidents in USA

In Oklahoma 7 Electoral College delegates were unanimously for Tr*mp with a popular vote approx 2:1 in his favour

In Massachusetts 11 Electoral College delegates were unanimously for Harris with a popular vote approx 2:1 in her favour

Democracy it ain't.

At least the river was safe for bathing 198 year ago. The industry and most of the population were downstream of the bridge at that time.
