I found out recently that they're actually all birds, things like five gold rings refer to gold ringed pheasants, the pipers are sand pipers etc. Technically if you follow the full song with the gifts being added to each day you'd end up with 364 birds 😳

I just find most gear conversations insufferably dull unless they also incorporate discussion of the artistry as well.
