Delighted to share this one, as it has been on the cards for ages: a conversation with Holly Dicker about hardcore dance music movements and her essential new book on the subject, Dance Or Die: A History of Hardcore. Listen to the conversation via the article below

You and I know it is a disaster, but Kemi and co still think it is brilliant. Maybe I could have included it but only so many characters available
sellbydave.bsky.social
That Kemi Badenoch Tory conference speech in full: nothing is our fault, even though we crashed the economy; rich people should pay less tax; hate is fine when it is aimed at the “woke”; here’s a load of unaffordable electoral bribes aimed at people that are already wealthy and need zero help.

Good. They should have thought about that before stealing millions of books, copyrighted articles, artworks etc before training their LLMs! Aside from those at the tho, creative professionals often struggle to make ends meet and wholesale theft from AI companies makes it even more difficult

I had to turn 5 Live off as I was shouting at the radio. A killer blend of gaslighting, arrogance, culture war cobblers and an assumption that the electorate has conveniently forgotten the crap her party served up for 14 years.

He’s genuinely repulsive on every level, even by the extremely low standards of the current Tory party. He’s either a corrupt, power-hungry opportunist who sees the benefit (for him and nobody else) of this kind of awful racist rhetoric, or a corrupt, power-hungry racist. Either way, he’s a tool

This. Those who basically just want sugar in drinks that take forever to make, another where we can get simple black coffee/espresso quickly and crack on.

Definitely one they could (but probably won’t) reissue. Same for the first album, which is definitely more of a wavy chill out room dancefloor vibe.

Oh yeah, the vinyl price is nuts. To be honest, I might sell my copy and buy a Cd version instead 😅

On the latest instalment of the ‘Reapptaised’ series, I’ve revisited Paul McCartney and Youth’s second album as The Fireman, an overlooked 90s ambient gem that I picked up on wax way back in 1998

REAPPRAISED: 04 – THE FIREMAN: RUSHES
Matt Anniss dusts down an overlooked 1998 collaboration between Youth and Paul McCartney, a fine example of the latter’s love of risk-taking and experimentation

Either that or he does and is genuinely a colossal tool. His antics yesterday were pathetic. I get Ipswich and their supporters celebrating - first derby win in 16 years etc - but he should have shown some respect for his former club and toned it down a bit. Needs a good kicking in the return game
sellbydave.bsky.social
Yes, despite plenty of evidence this season that they are bang average
sellbydave.bsky.social
What I’d like to see tomorrow (regardless of the result) is some proper fight and a better tempo. We have seen that more in away games (oddly) when our backs are against the wall, but not enough.
sellbydave.bsky.social
A thousand times YES.

I am always worried when it comes to derbies but I would feel more confident if we were playing better. That’s my worry. They have an expensively assembled but undeniably mediocre squad (sounds familiar) and ordinarily I’d back us to do a job. Not convinced this time though!
sellbydave.bsky.social
Maybe. They’re generally tight and aggressive games. They were very fortunate (again) to get anything at Bristol City. My housemate (season ticket holder at Ashton Gate) was furious afterwards - with the ref and with how easily Ipswich went down. And Leif Davis, mainly for being his usual self 😂
sellbydave.bsky.social
Interesting that you feel like the away run may continue. On the times I have watched that lot in blue this season (usually short spells on TV games) they have looked energetic and aggressive but generally pretty poor. Despite this I worry that they will overwhelm us tomorrow
sellbydave.bsky.social
It really is. Laughed a lot as I ploughed through the first four episodes. Impeccable
sellbydave.bsky.social
Though it was actually Andy’s original mix that Jonnie played rather than the Frankie Knuckles mix
sellbydave.bsky.social
The very essence of great disco songs, right? Music is happy (on the surface at least) but the lyrics are melancholic, bittersweet etc.

Jonnie playing this at Watching Trees this year led to a colossal singalong. First time I’ve heard it “out” (aside from when I’ve reached for it) in ages… moment!

In a huff about not being fed on demand, the cat has confiscated my office chair again. Good excuse to go and do some reading elsewhere in the house!

He’s too busy following Nigel around like a lovesick puppy
sellbydave.bsky.social
I get that he sets up to hot teams on the break away from home, so you wouldn’t expect to dominate, but we don’t at home either. Not sure what the answer is but Manning needs to find one fast. Would be nice if that happened midweek v Baggies for a pre Derby boost!
