The revised map, entered in Coads v. Nassau County, ensures that elections for the county’s governing body will fairly reflect the partisan preferences of the voters in future elections.

The settlement resolves one of the first partisan gerrymandering lawsuits brought under New York’s Municipal Home Rule Law, which was amended in 2021 to prohibit local districts drawn “for the purpose of favoring or disfavoring incumbents or other particular candidates or political parties.”
