This all being said, its *not* hard to ask in a nice way(for most people).

I’d hope that would go w/out saying.

That also being said, people get nervous/unsure and people who are more neurotic also often dont take the time to phrase themselves, and they might not mean any harm by it.

And is so appreciative when asked. A uni friend of mine wears women's clothing and is questioning. Last weekend we were drinking and they went into how discussing it often helped them think out loud about what they wanted. It's hard to do the right thing when expectations of that vary. 2/2

That is fair, that is icky, and I get that its no reafferming.

If it helps I know people who are non binary and cis who present either very masc/fem and also get asked, and on the opposite end they really appreciate it when asked. My bff doesnt like being recognized as a their bio gender, 1/2

At being asked, and not making the assumption leads to a scenario in which one can never do the right thing. If the question was presented like your other example, *which wasn't implied the way I read the post*, then of course it's a total asshole asking that and I’m sorry they exist. 2/2

That goes without saying, I’d hope you would know I wouldnt defebd a statement like the latter, esp since you know me. I mean that despite someone presenting in the most basic white girl clothing ever its still polite to ask, so, assuning it was asked in the correct way, still being offended 1/2

At this point it's just polite to ask more than anything. Some will present feminine and still use they/them; ex. One of my best friends.
