I like things, and ideas, and most people but not all. I try not to hate but this world makes it really hard to do that. I enjoy teaching ESOL now more than at any time in my teaching career. I probably think too much about language... But I enjoy it!
I'm also not far off retirement. Cou lol d still be made redundant and have to start applying for jobs again. Call me cynical, but who knows what will be judged as an inappropriate, unsuitable or "troubling" post by HR or even by an AI recruitment programme?

Such an education in one post. Will use Pity system in a quiz I think.

Sometimes there are questions I want to ask , or things I want to say. But then I remember that two recent job applications asked for my social media details... So I'm saying nothing😁

I'd have placed it South of China and I'd have been right. Also don't you think knowing oceans and seas isn't exactly the same?

Nice, a bit hi tech for the likes of me! 😁 I've just realised that most glass marbles had the same design inside. Is that universal or just UK?

Playing marbles and envying kids who had a giant silver coloured marble which we called a Bulbarian. Only much later as an adult did I realise it was a ball bearing. ( I've put it in the form.)

I don't think she's allowed to mingle with normal real people any more. At least I hope so...

Demonstrating multitasking skills under extreme circumstances. A good example for the C.V😁

People are believing it. Yes, they are the same people who believe Sadiq Khan has secretly brought in Sharia (autocorrect said Sangria 😁) Law. Unfortunately more and more seemingly normal people believe more and more of this type of bare faced industrial level mendacity.

Could be Trump just misunderstood his dodgy medical advice. "You need to take Mounjaro now"

At first glance I thought his name was a spoof... Then again...

Me and my siblings agreed this many years ago (in the 80s?) with a cut off at age 18. Unfortunately I've twice married into families who insist on present giving, including giving cash in cards for adults...

I'd seriously be considering £10 if you'd promise no nail clippings and no future talk of nail clippings.😁

Would need better earphones/headphones, we didn't know any better but the sound was so bad...
January 4, 2026 at 4:34 PM
Yes they're incompetent (what the fuck were they thinking - Employer NI increase was always going to lead to job losses) they've betrayed what Labour has stood for favoured the rich over the poor. But there is also a social and algorithm driven hate campaign against them which has huge traction.

Good language teaching should always have a balance between (1) knowledge about language and (2) skills in using the language. That's what I try to do when I teach, AI can produce passable texts, but can't decide how you balance the two, when, where, with who and how you support learners to do it.

The damage Michael Gove did because of believing he knew more than people who have dedicated their lives to education will take a long time to undo.

Sadly I can see very similar patterns in the UK driven by GBNews type media and algorithm driven ragebait. Immigrants, Sadiq Khan, Keir Starmer, Rachel Reeves and Ed Miliband are their leading scapegoats subject to 24/7/365 slander, lies and vitriol.

Who wouldn't miss the promoter and chief architect of the hostile environment to migration, a big contribution to the Windrush scandal.

No one says in maths but in my country 2+3 = 23. It's hard and requires desire and teaching based on what works ( which the academics disagree on!) www.hepi.ac.uk/2025/07/31/n....
New report shows a catastrophic decline in formal language learning - HEPI

Languages have been part of the UK curriculum for many years. Just because pupils have to do it doesn't mean they will learn it. And, as any language teacher will tell you, just because you teach it doesn't mean they will learn it. Language learning isn't like learning any of the other subjects.
