AHEM

YOU DIDN'T NAME THEM

It's not even a tough question! The reporter was being obtuse, but she can just respond with "those aren't the voters I'm targeting."

My entire political awakening came through exposure to new ideas over social media, and I've made a ton of friends, and maintained a lot of long-term friendships, through social media.

Overall, it's made me a better person than I would have been otherwise.

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?
semperfitrex.bsky.social
It's scary, I get it. But smashing your leg on something, feeling the pain, but refusing to look down or try to move it doesn't make the problem go away. It keeps you from diagnosing the problem and figuring out a plan.

Nobody wants to see the ground rushing up to them, but this isn't Looney Tunes.

If you're terrified that police won't follow orders, then you don't actually have any power. If our government is so broken that soldiers will follow illegal orders from the president, but police won't follow legal orders, then people need to know.
semperfitrex.bsky.social
"If a governor responds to this, what happens if the police or guard refuse their orders? What if isn't sparks off a civil war?"

It could happen, but if it does, then we'll have a much clearer picture of what the situation is, and people will have to start making choices. SOP isn't working, though.

If any meaningful resistance to Trump helps Trump, then I guess our only response is to not resist Trump?

People in Chicago are being actively brutalized. They don't need to go through Pritzker when he lets them go around him.

Are you stopping them? Doesn’t look like it.

Analysis is 100% right but it’s important not to blow smoke when your citizens are getting brutalized. Maybe all the people saying the governor has no legit way of actually stopping them are correct! But if you can’t, then don’t claim you are.

Pritzker: "I think it's important to recognize that the Trump administration does not seem to respect any laws in the United States. They just do what they want to do and they'll keep doing it unless someone stops them. Here in Illinois we're stopping them."

A pure pitch to contact guy. You never see it anymore.
semperfitrex.bsky.social
I hope so. I haven't seen much in the way of that among my friend groups, though. People are already pretty damn upset and demand an end to this.
semperfitrex.bsky.social
My concern is that a lack of action in the face of these acts will send a message of its own that will reduce popular support for any resistance.
semperfitrex.bsky.social
Nice words. Love the words.

Still words, though.

This works a lot better when Trump hasn't already had ICE burst into the city and start brutalizing and imprisoning people, though.

Pritzker: "This guy is unhinged. He's insecure. He's a wannabe dictator. And there's one thing I really want to say to Donald Trump. If you come for my people, you come through me. So come and get me."
semperfitrex.bsky.social
Knowing something is wrong and/or illegal is nice, but uh... what's the plan here, guys?
semperfitrex.bsky.social
Gotta ask, what is going to happen with all this? What are people in power doing about it?

As Trump and ICE unleash terror on Chicago, due process is nowhere to be found.

Right? Super easy, and still great.

Laughing at the March on Rome, because as a socialist, it's only going to freak out bourgeois politicians, and I'm too cool to panic.

I think if it took you to October 5th, 2025 to realize that maybe this 1/6/21 business was maybe a big deal I think you shouldn't be allowed to comment on politics

"As one of the cool kids, I didn't get excited over a fascist attempt to overthrow the government and murder the legislature" is emblematic of the biggest problem the American left has.

If that's not something to be worried about, what is?
semperfitrex.bsky.social
I don't believe in hell, or heaven.

If an act cries out for punishment, or a good person deserves better, we need to make sure it happens, because if they die without it happening, then we have missed our window to make a just outcome.

No man is going to hell. They either face justice, or don't.

Bill Burr made a very stupid move, doubled and then tripled down on it, and lost a lot of my respect.

But yeah, the "he's always sucked" stuff is just cope from people who are either farming clout, or who are hurt and feel betrayed.

I think it's fair to criticize the people who did the festival, as long as the same rage is directed to the political and business leaders who also help prop that system up.
semperfitrex.bsky.social
All things eventually rot away, but the case I would make is that complete unaccountability is where things always go bad.

Nothing will last forever, but any system where someone can be put above suspicion or consequence is damned to become evil very quickly.

It's the original sin of the USSR.
