T.S. Eliot was born on this day in 1888.

To celebrate we’re showing off some of the original items in our collection.

This includes first editions of The Waste Land and Prufrock, with some even signed by Eliot himself.

Dingwall was a keen investigator of the paranormal. His kit, complete with luminous pins designed to “capture” spirits, speaks to his unusual blend of scholarship and curiosity for the unexplained.

We’re delighted to see a familiar object featured in the Guardian’s coverage of Ghosts: Visualising the Supernatural at Kunstmuseum Basel: a ghost-hunting kit once owned by Eric Dingwall, who left a bulk of his work with the University of London Library.

Here's a #HigherEducationPostcard showing the @senatehouselib.bsky.social at Senate House, @londonu.bsky.social

When I worked at Senate House from 1990 to 1996 this was, I think, the Law Library reading room

If you like this image, please share it - remember, BlueSky has #NoAlgorithm
An old picture postcard showing an image of a reading room in a university library. There are wooden panelled bookshelves in alcoves all around the sides of the room, and on a mezzanine; in the middle are many elegant desks and chairs, each with their own light.
