Trump is the king of debt, spending wildly on stuff like the White House ballroom and military deployments in our cities, while cutting taxes for the richest people in the world.

Congress should stop him.
senatorrobhogg.bsky.social
Since Trump became President again, the national debt has jumped by more than $1.6 trillion, or more than $5,000 per American (including children), in less than 9 months.

That’s $25,000 for my family of five.

Clint Twedt-Ball, Democratic candidate for Congress in Iowa’s 2nd District, is reporting over $200,000 raised with 90% coming from Iowans since announcing in July.

He has accomplished much as a pastor and nonprofit leader, and is new to politics. I think that‘s what voters are looking for.

I am grateful for the one-third inch of rain yesterday - we need more - but Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has now had an extraordinary 28 days in a row with temperatures above average.

Today will be close to average, but is forecast to be number 29.

Trump is hurting our economy. “In the first half of the year, spooked businesses closed or downscaled more than $22 billion in clean energy projects, costing more than 16,000 jobs, most of them in Republican-held districts.”

Trump’s hatred for renewables means the US is falling behind the rest of the world
As well as embracing ‘beautiful coal’, the president has set about obliterating clean energy projects

I highly recommend this show. On Tuesday, October 7, it will show at 7 pm at the Music Hill Studios, 1509 Rainbow Drive, in Waterloo. Especially good for people with an interest in the law, labor movement, civil rights, criminal justice, science (evolution), and theater.

Ready for the one-actor play on Clarence Darrow in the Old Capitol Senate Chamber
in Iowa City starting at 2 pm today (Oct. 5). If you miss this one, there are upcoming shows in Waterloo (Oct. 7), Des Moines (Oct. 9), Council Bluffs (Oct. 10), and Sioux City (Oct. 13).

Less than one inch of rain in Cedar Rapids since August 16.

Please conserve water and energy, prioritize young trees, and take action to help us stop the buildup of climate pollution.

So far today, October 4, the high has been 85 and the low has been 64 in Cedar Rapids. (Average high is 67, average low is 45.)

Above average 25 days in a row!

9 days in a row above 80 - a new record streak for the fall, according to WHO13 Weather.
senatorrobhogg.bsky.social
As of 2 pm, October 3 has a high of 87 and a low of 59, putting us 16.5 degrees above average. (Average high is 68, average low is 45.) Record high was 94 in 1997.

Tomorrow marks three months since the Texas floods that ravaged Camp Mystic and killed 27 campers and 119 people overall.

I agree with Avery Haynes who wrote the article I shared. Government should work on disaster prevention and preparedness just like it does police and fire protection.

"Our leaders must be held accountable not only for how they respond after tragedy, but for what they do to prevent it. It is not enough for government to show up once the waters have risen. Texans must demand protection before the next storm arrives."

Just counted it up. Cedar Rapids has been above average for 23 days in a row - extraordinary - and mostly quite a bit above average.

Normal high for October 2: 68
Today: 86

Average low for October 2: 45
Today: 56
senatorrobhogg.bsky.social
With a high of 85 and a low of 56, which is where we stand as of 4:00 pm, Cedar Rapids would be 14 degrees above average on October 2. (Average high is 68 and average low is 45.)

Trump is hurting our economy, increasing the deficit, and raising prices.

“Earth’s temperature has risen by an average of 0.11° Fahrenheit per decade since 1850, or about 2° F in total. The rate of warming since 1982 is more than three times as fast: 0.36° F per decade.”

Global heating is accelerating.

Climate change: global temperature
Earth's surface temperature has risen about 2 degrees Fahrenheit since the start of the NOAA record in 1850. It may seem like a small change, but it's a tremendous increase in stored heat.

We must stop the buildup of climate pollution to safeguard our people, our property, the places we love, nature and future generations from extreme events and other harm made worse by climate change.

Already do and it will get significantly worse until we take much more significant action.

Unconscionable that the current administration and its party are so actively hostile to climate science and climate solutions.
senatorrobhogg.bsky.social
Please conserve energy and water, prioritize young trees, and speak up for more action to stop the buildup of climate pollution in the atmosphere.

October 1 we were 11.5 degrees above average in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

For September as a whole we finished 4 degrees above average.

We have still had less than an inch of rain since August 16.
