Senator Jerry McNerney
@senmcnerney.bsky.social
Senator of CA's 5th District, which includes Alameda County's Tri-Valley & all of San Joaquin County. Former member of Congress for 16 yrs. Recovering mathematician.
I strongly oppose the Trump Administration's bad decision to pump more water out of the fragile Delta. The White House water grab not only will harm the Delta but could force the state to slash water deliveries to millions of SoCal residents.

"California’s economic outlook continues to be sluggish, as UCLA forecasters predicted Wednesday the state’s unemployment rate will keep climbing as Trump administration tariff and immigration policies continue to have an impact."

Great to see @cagovernornewsom.bsky.social Administration strongly opposing Trump's awful plan to pump more water out of the Delta. The White House water grab not only would decimate the Delta but would force the state to slash water deliveries to millions of SoCal residents.

Great news! The state of California is expediting two much-needed affordable housing projects on state-owned land in Stockton, totaling 240 affordable units.

These are exactly the type of projects we need to help address our affordable housing shortage.

The Delta Caucus stands ready to work with the governor to meet CA’s water needs through mutually supportable actions, such as recycled water, levee repair, dredging to restore capacity in the existing water system, and continued water efficiency measures.

Huge thanks to the Delta Protection Commission for voting to appeal the certification of the costly and destructive Delta Tunnel Project.

The state's certification of the 45-mile-long water tunnel through the heart of the Delta is deeply flawed.

NEW: As co-chairs of the CA Legislative Delta Caucus, Asm. Lori D. Wilson and I today called on the Delta Protection Commission to file an official appeal of the certification of the costly and destructive Delta Tunnel Project.

It was my honor to serve alongside Nancy Pelosi for 16 years in Congress and to pass historic legislation, including the Affordable Care Act, consumer protection reforms, and landmark investments in clean energy and the fight against climate change.

I want to express my deepest thanks to my friend and former longtime colleague Nancy Pelosi on her unparalleled career serving our country and congratulate her on her announced retirement. She is a true political icon and trailblazer.

To help make up for the interruption in CalFresh benefits, California has allocated $80 million to local food banks, and @governor.ca.gov Newsom has mobilized members of the CA National Guard and the CA Volunteers program to distribute food aid during the federal government shutdown.

Folks, thanks to a lawsuit filed by CA and 20-plus other states, the Trump admin will soon send out SNAP/CalFresh benefits for Nov.

But because the Trump admin. initially (and unlawfully) refused to use emergency SNAP funds, CalFresh benefits will be delayed for 5.5 million hungry Californians.

Great news! Gov. @gavinnewsom.bsky.social today signed my SB 279, which will help farmers and winegrape growers by allowing them to compost large amounts of agricultural waste onsite rather than shipping it hundreds of miles away to a composting facility.

California needs to build housing to help make our state more affordable. And one of the most effective ways to address our housing affordability crisis is to accelerate the construction of low-cost housing, like ADUs and junior ADUs.

Excellent! Gov. @gavinnewsom.bsky.social today signed my SB 543, which will streamline the construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs), also known as backyard cottages or casitas.

Really good discussion and turnout on Friday evening at my San Joaquin County town hall on defeating the Delta Tunnel fast-tracking plan, working to make CA more affordable, creating more jobs as we transition to clean energy, and ensuring artificial intelligence is safe and beneficial.

Great to join with Congressman Josh Harder for a roundtable discussion in Manteca on veterans' issues.

Also proud to support and help lead actions in the CA Legislature this year to strengthen veterans' benefits in the state.

Proud to stand with my friend & former colleague Congressman @ericswalwell.bsky.social & with Assemblymember @asmlizortega.bsky.social to speak out against the Trump shutdown of the federal government and the GOP's draconian cuts, which will kick millions of Californians off of health care coverage.

ICYMI: Filing tax returns is about to become easier in California, especially for taxpayers with small businesses, thanks to my SB 711, which Gov. @gavinnewsom.bsky.social signed last evening.

SB 86 extends the clean energy tax incentive program and expands it to include fusion energy, a cutting-edge technology that has the potential to produce unlimited amounts of safe, clean power.
