A year ago today, I started camp Gale; and predictably, a year later, he is still not finished!

I knew going in that this would be a long endeavour, and I haven’t given myself a deadline for finishing him. And honestly, it’s been wonderful to just work at my own pace and enjoy the journey.

This is a very slow and nerve-wracking process because I have to be so careful about the placement of each piece. That said, got one shoe adorned!

This was such a labour of love, and a fun little prop diversion from the endless embroidery I've been doing. Even though this was created with the express intent of giving it to Tim Downie, it was hard to let it go! So I expect I'll be making another one for myself somewhere down the line.

…learned how to age paper (super easy, actually); discovered that painting faux wood texture is not my favourite (as opposed to faux metal, which I love); and got myself a very silly quill fountain pen for the purposes of inking the letter markings (fountain pens are SO SATISFYING to use).

Camp Gale was (mostly) set aside for a month while I focused on this little side project, and I am beyond thrilled with how it came out. I tooled, dyed, stitched and distressed the leather all by hand….

Since I had no idea if or when Tim Downie would be guesting at a con I could actually go to, I took a page from @athelartistry.bsky.social ‘s book, and asked if she could pass along a gift from me when she went to meet him in August. She graciously agreed, and I frantically went to work!

Swapped from hem embroidery to working more on the detail stitching on the trousers. Rather harder on my hands, but much speedier in terms of progress. Nearly done with the first leg now!

Wanted to play BG3 but I made myself sit outside and do a couple hours of embroidery before it gets stupidly hot for the next week 😩

The whole thing comes apart in four sections - head, grip, shaft, base cap - with strategic use of magnets and also the PVC twist and lock connectors from @thedangerousladies
