If you haven’t read them yet with her, I highly recommend The Amulet of Samarkand and its sequels (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amu...) I really enjoyed them when I was around her age, and they’ve held up really well! Magic with some snarky humor that relies heavily on … footnotes.

Thanks for sharing this again!

It’s definitely the thing you’ve written that I think about the most—it catalyzed the final step in the transformation of how I think about crime, punishment, and how the wealthiest society in the world treats “the least of these”.
