But attacking a PW *is* roughly the equivalent of casting Swords on a creature in that context. Offsetting life loss is not worth losing board presence.

Yeah, that take is a fundamental misunderstanding of both Nazi ideology/jurisprudence and their material actions. They explicitly wanted to replace sovereign nation states with an imperial Reich:
