there's also jade's combat focus: defense. it reflects diamant's beliefs on strength, and his vision for brodia, nicely - protection, over harm

with jade, he exhibits a level of thoughtfulness she isn't normally used to receiving. she grew up as a middle child of a large family, and thus was likely overlooked

she struggled to take up her family's trade, and her strength + lack of expression branded her as 'ruthless' by many people

he gives amber recognition and acceptance, never judging or disparaging him for his antics. yeah, he's clumsy. yeah, he's goofy

but diamant genuinely appreciates how earnest he is, and depends on someone as kind and altruistic as amber to be a pillar for the future brodia HE wants to create
