1.        I decided to return to Stocking Nude from the very first weeks of the quarter. I thought that I would be frustrated immedietaly, but was greeted with warmth as I sat in that spot I was so familiar with.

1.        I went back to the same museum. I wanted to look at the African exhibit, since it was something that would have not chosen otherwise. I took inspiration in that decision-making from the readings.

In case the trend of my previous posts haven’t been realized, I will inform: I will be going to the same museum today. I have decided to make it a full commitment in uncovering the aesthetic experience

For the sake of documentation, I chose to write about another week at the downtown museum. I feel committed to it at this point.

I woke up today and thought about “Trance” from my earlier posts. I decided that it would be refreshing to pay it an old visit and look at some new works.

It was a great feeling to be able to come back to the museum. For yet another hour, I got to sit in front of Wesselmann’s Stocking Nude to try to apply original thoughts while incorporating the reading. I felt tired, and at a certain point I started to wonder if it was worth it.

1.        There were many artworks that I saw today, some new and some familiar. Still, I think that I am sticking to my original thoughts as to which artworks I liked the most. I really enjoyed Tom Wesselmann’s “Stocking Nude” and “Trance” by Vasquez de la Hora.

It depends if a USB stick is a work of art. Does it prompt you to think about something profoundly? I think that there are also contexts which make it "art" clearer than other times. To someone that a USB stick is art to, it may just be a somatic instrument. #ConArtInSitu

A sad truth is that an artist can only do so much to make me (or anyone) feel as they intend. Though we know that part of the serendipity of that is that it makes unique definitions, I can't imagine what it's be like for the artist if they end up being misunderstood. I would feel done #ConArtInSitu

Emotions that I have felt while working on art are indefinite, and I mean that oftentimes they overlap and therefore I can't give a number. The overlaps mean more to me since they're unique, I have felt sad/angry, sad/happy, sad/excited, etc. Their complexity is unique. #ConArtInSitu

d5: The material/medium of the artwork does not work directly on my senses. Though, I still understand the importance for how the art is portrayed to me without a physical relationship with it. The closest I feel to it is from the graphite, like it's from my notebook or something. #ConArtInSitu

In the same fashion of ambiguity as the definition of the word itself, “contemporary” as a classification has unclear limits. Who decides these standards? Who should, if that’s the case? Academics/curators have ethos, but even then that can’t handle the multifaceted nature of the word. #ConArtInSitu

What is contemporary?
I am not absolutely sure. However, I understand that it classifies present day work, and/or work following present day standards and ideas with context. I think of my summer job, a museum hosting exclusively contemporary art. Usually unknown and complex. #ConArtInSitu

Contemporary is interesting because of the authority that the word has: It comminly grants art having a modern day purpose with a basic level of recognition that it aims to reach. For example, an artist hopes that at the very least, their art will bring grouped as “contemporary”. #ConArtInSitu

Engagement with art is always unique, and I think it is conditional on how the situation unfolds. How you felt on a day when you saw the painting, how receptive or hostile was the museum environment, what age you were, etc.. It is very broad and can cover a wide array of factors. #ConArtInSitu

Art is a word that refers to an extensively complex concept, of things made for expression and/or appreciation. I also think it covers the spontaneous/subconscious appreciation of something, the point being that art can be introspective in nature. #ConArtInSitu

Art Criticism refers to the investigation, using a rubric with some level of rigor. It's used in an academic or professional setting, like analysis of an art technique in a painting by a teacher or curators showing preference in an artist over reasons principle to their work. #ConArtInSitu
