What’s your advice to people now looking to get their first job in the film business? Any words of wisdom etc?

This is what it feels like to hang out with my younger coworkers

And then that’s it, really. Chances and opportunities are for the young and beautiful people. Everyone remains a stranger. And no one opens doors for strangers. And that’s the end of so many stories.

And then before you know it. You’re old. And people say things to you like oh mid 30s that’s nothing. But it is something. Because you never really got a chance to do anything or be anyone. Because you were too lonely and you were homeless for too long and everything started to feel too different.

You can’t really network like you used to. You can’t just move to LA or NYC and start meeting people and meeting contacts. You take whatever job you can get and then people don’t even see you as a creative anymore. Just another bartender or another barista or another waiter etc.

You show up to events and parties etc and you try to make friends, but everyone has friends already. I mean who goes to an event alone these days really? You say you’re gonna network and put yourself out there, but it’s not like it used to be. Everything is so closed off. Everyone is so closed off.

They’re everywhere, they’re like a mold

I feel that. I feel like I’m coasting back and forth between passively and actively. It’s so ingrained that it’s like if you take it all away, what’s even left? Hard agree I feel you ❤️❤️❤️

Exactly it was a member of our community and as such he deserves to have his name correct. Just delete and repost with the name correct. It’s ok that it was an accident. But being an accident doesn’t mean you don’t do anything. Just like when you accidentally get someone’s pronouns wrong etc

LGBTQIA people are murdered and misnamed and misgendered all the time. It’s a basic level of respect. It’s ok that it was autocorrect, just simply delete it and repost it. He deserves to have his name correct.

It’s his very name. LGBTQIA people have our names stolen from us all the time. I think it was an accident absolutely but just because it was an accident doesn’t mean you don’t do anything to fix it. Just delete the post and make another one it’s not that hard. He deserves to have his name correct.

It’s his very name. The name of someone taken from us by the same bigots who are constantly getting our names and our pronouns wrong. He deserves to have his name correct. One of my biggest fears as a queer person is having my name be incorrect when I die.

I say this with love, I honestly do.
Delete the post and correct the name. If it won’t let you edit it start over and just post it again. Queer people are robbed on our names all the time. It’s a core part of us. He deserves to have his name corrected.

It pisses me off that any well-intentioned honest student should have to spend an iota of an atom of a second second-guessing their own writing for fear that someone wielding a divining rod is going to think they cheated.
