Feeling like just another meme or narrative erodes the metaphysical realism essential to many magical systems, making it seem like a copypasta. Or, all you have to do is log into the front page of the Internet: Reddit.

Serious discussions are mixed with memes, and metaphysical commitments are ironized. Whether explicitly stated or not, spirits are implicitly interpreted as archetypes in the same way people become memes.

The ontological assumptions of, say, Discord or Reddit override the ontological assumptions of the magical system in that space. All you have to do is peek into an occult Discord, and you will see tons of memes and shitposts.

You know what I find so ironic? I find it ironic how #irony is destroying #occultism, and I am so here for it.
