My theory is that Starmer has told Davey he will minimise criticism of the Lib Dems from the Labour benches. In return, he encourages Davey to criticise Reform and Euroscepticism in general on his behalf. That way, Starmer avoids the accusation that he is "betraying the referendum"...

Let Trump be the one to let the brexiters down? At least then the government can say they really did try but that the fundamental premise of Brexit turned out to be ephemeral...then start the baby steps back towards the EU?
