The wrecking-ball QB: Haynes King may lead Georgia Tech to the ACC championship game and the Playoff ...

... If he can stay healthy.

“The school continued to insist it had not officially hired anybody as its new head coach, despite the season opening tomorrow.”

Wait, so now athletes have to wait until a new coach is HIRED before they can enter the portal?

Previously, it was immediately after the previous coach was fired.

This story explores an underrated theory:

Brock Bowers was the real key to Georgia's offensive surge, partly because he was great, but also because he gave the team a clear, No. 1 receiver, and that's so important.

(But could Georgia still have one this year?)

There's been a lot said and written about the Georgia offense the last few years. Why it got better, why it struggled at times, the QB play, the coordinators.

But maybe that's all overthinking it.

Georgia LT Monroe Freeling (ankle) will not have surgery, per Kirby Smart, who said he's hopeful Freeling can play at Auburn.

Georgia is already playing without starting RT Earnest Greene, so not having Freeling would be less than ideal.

So much of it was based on Arch being good, and Texas reloading. I bought into it too.

And it doesn't rule out the Longhorns won't turn it around. But obviously right now it's a bust, and too many of us bought into the brand names rather than 2024 performance.
sethemerson.bsky.social
In hindsight, you can argue Texas' 2024 resume' didn't justify just sliding into the preseason No. 1 or 2 spot:

- No regular-season wins over a team with more than 8 wins.
- Lost twice to Georgia.
- Barely beat Arizona State in CFP.
- Home win over Clemson was weakest of first-round games.

Preseason No. 1 Texas now has two losses, still plays Oklahoma, goes to Georgia, hosts Texas A&M, and its play doesn't inspire confidence it'll definitely win at Mississippi State or beat Vanderbilt in Austin.

Not saying the Longhorns are cooked, but yikes.

UCLA on a critical fourth and inches went to the shotgun and you know how this sentence ends.

Huh, Florida's gonna do this, isn't it.

And Arch is still doing this, isn't he.

The Mark Stoops dilemma: It sure seems like it's over for him at Kentucky. But does the money, and Stoops' track record, make the two sides stuck with each other?

"There's zero chance I'm walking away," Stoops said Saturday when asked about a report he could.

Good lord, Gators, what a touchdown!

Georgia didn’t have an SEC regular season game last year where it was ahead enough the backup QB - Stockton - could go in. And it played winless Mississippi State at home, as well as Kentucky.

So consider this a mark of progress.

It's Ryan Puglisi time as Georgia holds a 35-7 lead late in the third quarter. A few reserves on the O-line as well.

Gunner STockton finishes with 196 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, plus two rushing TDs and 48 rushing yards.

And two drives later Cash Jones catches a pass and scores to put Georgia up 35-7.
sethemerson.bsky.social
Perhaps as a joke, Georgia just ran essentially the same play - handoff to Cash Jones out of the shotgun - from the same spot on the field. And got about the same result.

Luckily it was first down this time, and it has a 28-7 lead on Kentucky. So everyone just had a good laugh.

Georgia now has four rushing touchdowns today - two by the QB, and two by a receiver (Dillon Bell.) So, whatever.

Georgia's Chauncey Bowens is a big physical runner - but also really smart. He takes the right cuts, both to the inside or outside.

He's up to 51 yards vs. Kentucky, late in the first half. And he had 119 on 12 carries vs. Alabama, when he should have touched it more in the fourth quarter.
sethemerson.bsky.social
Somebody on press row may have been commenting that Georgia's defense just doesn't make plays, doesn't get sacks, doesn't force turnovers, and on the very next play Georgia did in fact force a fumble. It's first fumble recovery of the season.

You're welcome, Georgia fans.

Georgia with a 21-7 halftime lead over Kentucky - that's Georgia's first halftime lead vs. a power conference team in almost a calendar year: Oct. 19 at Texas.

Since then the Dawgs trailed seven times and tied once. (And went 5-3 in those games.)

Midway through the second quarter, Kentucky is averaging 8.1 yards per play, Georgia is averaging 5.9.

But Georgia has had 36 plays, Kentucky only 12.

You can do the quick math, but the scoreboard is Georgia up 14-7.

Gunner Stockton in the first quarter vs. Kentucky: Two rushing touchdowns, 48 rushing yards, 75 passing yards. Georgia up 14-0.

Zac Branch merely set up Georgia for the 97-yard touchdown drive. Good confidence-builder for the offense, clearly Kirby Smart ordered him to do it, as you can see in their conversation.

The rare fair catch of a kickoff on the 3-yard line. That look back at the spot is the best part.
