I memory serves (been a while since history class), the fascists started a war that the American people didn't want to get involved in, but the gov did... and one thing led to another until an excuse was found and America joined the fight. America didn't defeat fascism, they just won a war.

best guess: driving up the price of coffee imports will cause shares in coffee companies to go down as people buy less... a perfect time to buy stock... just before lifting the tariff and causing a stock spike and selling for a handy gain.
