While I won't say my previous situation was "scary", it was negative. Honestly the most jarring part of the change was how... Normal, everything has felt. I'm now three months into this new job, new apartment, new roommate in a place I've never been- and it just feels. Normal.

I'd argue there's some merit to retaining your niceness. Protect yourself, sure- it does suck to be taken advantage of- but not in a way that forces you to lose a part of yourself that you value.

I'm fortunate that this- "live your truth, but be a respectful adult about it"- is the predominant mindset in most of the spaces I'm in. But I have experienced some vitriol, on both sides of the spectrum, in some others. More people need to think like this, and not just in the context of games.
