Have you tried tablet weaving or sprang or nalbinding? Those are some fiber crafts I want to try.

Thank you. I've been spitballing based on the knitting pattern I bought. I'm about halfway through the brim, but I'm willing to frog & start over if the loom knitting pattern give me better info.

The only crochet I do are power cords & headphone cords & I don't knit with needles at all. But I can loom knit. I've made hats, scarves, soap bags, washcloths, shawls, shrugs, & I've almost finished my 1st pair of socks (I need to sew up the toe on the 2nd one). You can stick to small projects.

You mean the chains? Those are lock chains (1st half flipped & 2nd half unflipped or vice versa). If you're tatting with ombre or multicolor thread you can get a striped effect.

Using multicolor or ombre thread with a strong contrast also helps. When the hand thread & shuttle thread are different colors, it's easier to see which thread is forming the knot

Do you want tatting resource suggestions? Jane Eborall's website has great tutorials.

From the pictures I saw he was very skilled & made lovely crochet. And it's possible he tatted (it was known by the mid19th century). If he did, I know a tatter who has a brochure about tatting & she'd be thrilled to add him (if he did).

As a tatter, you immediately caught my attention. Thank you for introducing me to his crochet, embroidery, & basketry. I didn't see any info about his tatting. Would you be able to direct me to where to find that info?

Good luck. I have confidence you can handle it.

Why did you use bobbin thread illustration? Cause those bands are not tatted. And you have some inaccurate statements, i.e. tatting made with small thread when any size cord can be used as long as the knots slide. Post shuttle are not strictly for beginners, etc

Nothing forgive. Everyone makes mistakes, experience just teaches ways to fix them.
