Same! I am very open to reimagining assessment. But I have to be able to implement it at scale. And students benefit most from more assessments and feedback (i.e., scaffolding). But there's only one of me.

Claire Saffitz has made me a much better baker. Love her cookbooks especially Dessert Person, which has savory bakes amongst the perfectly balanced sweet ones.

This is my experience as well but divided between my on campus vs online classes. Deep engagement in my face to face class. With only about 1 out of 3 students in my online classes being similarly engaged, which is a drastic drop from previous semesters.

I already feel like I'm forced to accept them as there is almost nothing I can use as evidence of AI use. The assignments do poorly as they don't/ cannot follow instructions. But I have to grade it nonetheless.

This is incredible! I have also had magical experiences in my classroom this semester. Different context: small American CC classroom with an age range of 40ish years. But I have been blown away by the care that my students show towards each other. They forged community and it's beautiful.

Hmmm 1-3 depending on how much a child has ownership over things in the home.

I still regularly do one of these things! Just a few months ago in fact haha

“Higher education aims to create cognitively mature adults, which..requires us to ensure students learn to read, think and write all on their own. It is easier than we think: Creating tech-free spaces and incentivizing students to spend time in them requires no new resources. All it takes is will.”

Oh yes. I've also gotten the suggestion to just use ai to teach. Problem solved! 🙄

I can appreciate that this is new for them too but some form of leadership would be nice on this. More than "we have a committee working on it"... For three years.
