RPGs have ancestral roots in D&D.

Narrative and character choice is essential to being an RPG.

JRPGs are generally not RPGs because they lack meaningful choice that impacts your player character's development and the overall story.

It's why the Assassin's Creed "RPG" games aren't actually RPGs either.
