Absolutely. Laine's still a big question mark and perhaps a future top6 roster hole as well if things go bad. Who knows what he'll look like next season, so it's possible they hedge a bit there. Ehlers would look great here, i admit. But i'd be surprised if they didn't tweak the D tho.

Agreed. The only way is forward from now on. We're in a pretty good spot right now in terms of depth in assets, team culture, trajectory, etc. I think they feel they're close to turning a corner and that a couple of key pieces could go a long way. Will be interesting to see what they do for sure.

I've always thought he was kinda shakey, but so far, he's been excellent and is actually one of the few bright spot...

Good eye on Kapanen! He did look real good on the forecheck and in general. Kinda looked like a vet. If he keeps this up, he'll get harder to overlook. Interesting little upgrade of depth. He's eligible to play in the playoffs, right?

I agree, absolutely NO urgency to rush anything with him until AT LEAST the next trade deadline. He's not perfect, and maybe he's still getting back up to speed, but still a usefull weapon in the mean time. Even considering buying him out at this stage, after like 36 games, is completely nuts to me.

I’ve given up on that pony, alas. If people were up in arms with Price’s salary, they’d pass out over Soto’s! Plus, we’d be the poorest of the poor and have crap teams forever. Baseball doesn’t want us ;)

Incredibly on-point assessment Brian! What they're trying to do seems a bit clearer, for me anyways. And Hughes mentioning targeting certain signed players, that no one has talked about intrigues me the most... and makes me wonder who he was thinking of. Any insights on that? Or wishes?

Huh? I meant, either Dvo or Evans (Hell, even Newhook) can pinch in on the 2C (the other obviously plays on the 3rd, like you say) for a while instead of going out to get Novak or Nyquist. Sorry if i wasn't clear. But yeah, Beck can play of the 4th. Or Newhook, or Condotta.
