Happy Lesbian Visibility Week to all our lesbians!

This week, we celebrate our lesbian folks who have played a significant role in LGBTQ+ rights through the years. We wouldn't be where we are as a community without the "L" in LGBTQ+.

Eid-al-Fitr is one of the two holidays Muslims celebrate around the world. This holiday comes after Ramadan, a month during which Muslims spend fasting and dedicating their time to prayer, reflection, charity, and community.

Ramadan Mubarak to those who celebrate!

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims who observe it will fast from dawn to dusk to achieve greater "taqwa," or consciousness of God. The month of Ramadan is also a time of prayer, reflection, and community.

Alvin Ailey was a groundbreaking Black gay choreographer who popularized Black American dance.

Ailey founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, celebrating African American cultural heritage through iconic works like "Revelations."

James Baldwin was a renowned novelist, essayist, and civil rights activist who explored Black and Queer identities in works like "Giovanni's Room" and "The Fire Next Time," challenging societal norms around race, sexuality, and justice.

Phill Wilson is a Black HIV/AIDS activist who founded the Black AIDS Institute in 1999 to combat the epidemic's disproportionate impact on Black communities, having merged health advocacy with LGBTQIA+ justice.

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy is a Black Transgender elder and a Stonewall veteran who has spent decades advocating for Trans rights, with a focus on incarcerated Trans women and grassroots community support.

Barbara Jordan was the first Black woman elected to the Texas Senate and a Lesbian who limited her sexual orientation to private settings due to homophobic attacks.

Jordan was a trailblazing civil rights leader and a key figure in the 1974 Nixon impeachment hearings.

Audre Lorde was a self-described "Black, lesbian, mother, warriro, poet," whose writings like "Sister Outsider" confronted racism, sexism, and homophobia, which cemented her as a foundational voice in intersectional feminism.

Bayard Rustin was an openly Gay civil rights leader and chief organizer of the 1963 March on Washington.

Rustin mentored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and championed nonviolent resistance while navigating anti-LGBTQIA+ stigma.

This Black History Month we honor Marsha P. Johnson, a Black Transgender activist and pivotal figure in the 1969 Stonewall uprising.

Johnson co-founded the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), advocating for LGBTQ+ homeless youth and marginalized communities.
