It captures a certain timelessness about the city that still felt present and unharmed in spite of the scale of the recent tragedy. Few cities change as quickly or drastically while maintaining a kind of undiminished essence. I hope that will always remain true.

The story, a romance of creative ambition, felt a bit more wooden and uneven than I remember from my first time seeing the film. But it was cathartic to see Los Angeles so epically projected on screen like that...

It was surprising to see the resonance the movie holds here in Mexico City, with the theater’s 10,000 seats nearly filled to capacity and ladies in yellow dresses paying homage to Mia, the actress played by Emma Stone.

On Sunday night, we found some consolation in a familiar place: the movies. The Auditorio Nacional hosted a screening of the 2016 film La La Land, with its music composer Justin Hurwitz conducting a live orchestra in accompaniment.
