I write a little about a lot. - Politics (Canadian mostly), 2SLGBTQ+, and Weird Geekiness ... because.
Compared to Smith, Reagan was merely senile, where she's dangerously malicious.

Spares the premier of the embarrassment of having pictures taken with Rath, Parker, or Chandler ... to name a few ...

They’re serious alright - trust me, when it comes to erasing the rights of people they don’t like, they are deadly serious.

Donors are one thing, votes are another - I'm pretty skeptical of Alberta voters on the whole ever voting Liberal.

If Carney thinks this is about gaining seats in Alberta, he's in for a disappointment.
November 28, 2025 at 8:42 PM
It doesn't.

Alberta still has to come up with an actual project and backers for said project. It then falls to Alberta to garner consent from affected stakeholders.

The only thing "controversial" about his sentence is the fact he's been allowed to serve it at home ... and now the git wants the courts to change it because of his "religious beliefs"?

I hope "conditional sentences" reset when the judge sends you to jail for refusing to comply with conditions.

It worked a moment ago.

Considering that the MOU commits both parties to further negotiations, I expect her to start accusing the feds of bargaining in "bad faith".

The fight isn't over - not for a grifter like Smith - she'll find another grievance to make a stink about.
November 27, 2025 at 9:31 PM
This is a construct that Smith signalled a while ago. In theory, she's putting together a "committee of interested parties" who will become the "commercial interests" for the project while she stickhandles the fight with Ottawa.

It's a rare day when I even remotely agree with Jack Mintz even superficially.

I suspect that like Northern Gateway, this project will die on the indigenous consent side of things.

I strongly urge people to read the Attorney General of Canada's filing in Montreal English School Board v. Quebec Attorney General:

This is the relevant case before the SCC as we speak.

There's a fundamental problem with CCS in my opinion: the energy required to pump CO2 into a pressurized storage - be that a salt cavern underground or a pressure vessel - is going to increase with the volume of CO2 in the space increases; this is not a simple expansion, but an asymptotic increase.

My expectation is that Smith will form a crown corporation for the purpose. She's already signalled that several times in the last couple of months.

That said, the consent of affected First Nations is kind of critical, and does not seem to be forthcoming.

Yet, DP puts himself forward as an "expert" in political organizing ... how does he square that circle?
November 26, 2025 at 10:44 PM
Unfortunately, no. It doesn't escape my notice that the UCP is fond of attacking the NDP for "not running on <topic>", but then when they are in power they legislate on any number of subjects that they clearly didn't run on.
November 26, 2025 at 7:46 PM
The UCP routinely engages in projection because their awful policies are ... increasingly awful.
November 26, 2025 at 4:05 PM
Smith might demand its use, but since the biggest obstacle for a pipeline are indigenous peoples consent, she's kind of hooped - S33 can't be used to override S35.
November 26, 2025 at 4:02 PM
We need these "self-indemnification" laws to be found invalid. Governments should not be able to arbitrarily shield themselves from citizens seeking redress for the harms their policies cause.
November 26, 2025 at 3:36 PM
It’s also MLAs acting with wanton cruelty towards the people they purport to govern.
