years ago, some right wing clown said that Antifa was flying planeloads of protestors somewhere, and that kicked off some amazing threads about what flying Air Antifa might look like

catering by Food Not Bombs, FAs are all Black Bloc, etc 😂

“the girlfriend of one of the founders of antifa”
Black & white photo of a ~50yo woman. She has short-ish wavy blonde hair, intense eyes, and smiles slightly towards the camera. She is Carla Capponi, one of the more prominent women in the Italian resistance during WWII.
A comrade in the struggle described her as "this young blonde woman who went out at night to shoot Germans... with arms in hand, first among the first, she participated in dozens of actions, distinguishing herself in a superb way."

two options I've seen recommended are raindrop.io and zotero.org. I don't think either one is a direct parallel to Pocket but possibly one will work for you

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

it only gets worse when one imagines the kinds of "social media" that DW would supposedly steamroll and absorb:
• some random blog about K-drama/C-drama crossovers
• a chatboard about Nepali yarn spinning (total membership: 4)
• a dozen phpBB instances devoted to arcane RPGs nobody has ever heard of
shadowspar.bsky.social
this still makes me lolsob in the worst way any time I see it. like...the contrast between DW being portrayed as some angry, snarling Katamari of social media, vs our practically active disinterest in promoting the site to new users writ large 😅

it's always amazing when kids are like "what Nintendo game was popular when you were born?" and my answer is:
Two decks of Nintendo Daitōryō Hanafuda cards (aka "Japanese Flower Cards").

…while completely ignoring the instructions we provided.

I felt so bad for these people. not only are they not getting an interview, they just wasted 4+ hours on a task that was designed not to take anywhere near that long 😥
shadowspar.bsky.social
srsly, this kind of thing drives me BONKERS.

I created an assessment task that was "1) download this app build; 2) follow these exact repro steps; 3) write a bug report for the issue with component XYZ."

we got tons of responses that were a laundry list of every possible minor issue with the app…

kind of amazing that his idea of war basically hasn't advanced since the 16th century, ie "nooo you can't just vaporize my platoon with artillery, we were so manly and did so many push-ups"
Quoted passage from Miguel de Cervantes' novel Don Quixote:

"Blessed be those happy ages that were strangers to the dreadful fury of these devilish instruments of artillery, whose inventor I am satisfied is now in Hell, receiving the reward of his cursed invention, which is the cause that very often a cowardly base hand takes away the life of the bravest gentleman.

it did, thankfully! if it wouldn't have done, I might just have went back to bed and curled up in a tiny ball for the rest of the day 😅

DOJ's Hamilton is arguing that the order from Trump as to California NG isn't related to Oregon NG. It "does not have a geographic limit."

Immergut is not happy.

"What would the purpose of 12406 be?"

"Why is this appropriate?"

"Do you believe this is appropriate way to deal with my order?"

tfw you ask an LLM to generate sequences of 8 random letters

and it repeatedly gives you 'qwertyui', 'asdfghjk', 'lkjhgfds', 'poiuytre', etc 🤣
shadowspar.bsky.social
that's amazing. have you ever considered a career in software testing? you appear to have the "Bug Magnet" aura that many of us do 😊

as a girl with a PhD in natural language processing and machine learning it's actually offensive to me when you say "we don't know how LLMs work so they might be conscious"

I didn't spend 10 years in mines of academia to be told ignorance is morally equal knowledge.

We know exactly how LLMs work.

probably the least important critique of Takaichi, but this really made me cringe. Japan literally coined a word for "death from overwork", so I'm sure "working overtime" is definitely a strategy that's never been tried before
