What does phone bans in schools gave to do with birth rates?
My aunt is known to like cats - y’know, owns several, volunteers for cat charities, that sort of likes cats. Her home is full of cat stuff, but I learned a few years ago that she isn’t actually into cat merch she just kept getting gifts and ofc she must politely display them, and then it snowballed.

I had an absolutely awful vegan shepherd’s pie awhile back - they managed to make *mushrooms* and *lentils* taste *candied* - but the topping was this amazingly delicious bean/kale/cheddar mash instead of potato. Beans mash really well! GJ Ukraine!

I’m personally of the opinion that it means the first person to make that claim got a lot of attention and all the other outlets went “we would like some of those clicks too please”. But I’m sure the other theory makes those people feel better.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that if I in the UK have at least five brand options available from regular department stores - not even specialist shops! - the USA has more than one kit option.
And (good) kits *are* great for trying something out, people should leave learners alone.

Radcliffe, Grint and Watson are all English. We’re not remotely short on non-transphobe celebrities - the problem isn’t nationality, it’s that Rowling’s awful.

Apparently there was some concern at the time that they didn’t want to be seen as touring regional accents if he used his own Scottish accent after Christopher Ecclestone didn’t use an RP accent, which I felt was ridiculous at the time and haven’t changed my mind since.

I don’t think he gets a *pass* but we don’t need to invent stuff, either. Clearly being transphobic or associated with HP or Rowling isn’t a threat to anyone’s career unless they get all Linehan about it, so that can’t be the reason.

Last I heard Fry’d very much given up on that and had decided she was too transphobic to be talked out of it, which seems to have been his reasoning before that, but maybe there have been further developments.

And Unionists what Unionists, I suppose? Despite the violence very much not being an IRA Exclusive? I understand why English tv got a little fixated - Unionists weren’t so much for bombing bits of England - but if you’re going to set it *in Ireland*… c’mon. Not to mention the authorities!

… y’know, I was under impression that most peeps in America were not well-informed on the IRA beyond some fluffy “freedom fighters back in the old country” thing based on news stories about funding drying up post-9/11.

… Well, if they were trying to background race stuff I don’t think that’ll work. But then, I’m English with Irish Catholic family, so sold on the “racism does not depend on being brown” thing.
Although I would’ve thought the weird obsession with Irishness in America would be an issue even without.

Atm we’re in the faux civil stage in the UK and one thing that sucks about it is they’re v obviously offended and shocked that people aren’t impressed by it anymore. They think we should be and they’re mad at us for not caring about the show and instead the results.
