Shady (for short) began in 2014 with an ACE grants to fund four performance events in London, Manchester, Leeds and Edinburgh for artists working with writing. It remerged, self-funded in 2018 with six events in a record shop in Todmorden for experimental writers. In 2023 Shady Grants offered six day-rate to artist-writers in UK and Holland in collaboration with pssss.co This year, 2025, Shady co-hosts Channelling Voice, a conference that explores the political, historical, embodied and methodological production of voices with silverpress.org and the Institute of Art and Technology, Liverpool.
