It's why I tell people to try different formats. Most fun I ever had was playing cube draft. Premodern is a real banger too. Not like they're objectively better, just different styles of play.

I've been wearing a hat for 19 years straight for this exact reason.

In collage, I would cut a cube of cheese and place it somewhere visible while I did the dishes and laundry and what not, so that I would always see it, and then only get to eat it once I was done. I called it "Cheese Therapy", and it worked better than most medications I've tried.

Sometimes I *don't* want them, typically because the audio is really good, or the video has superior closed captions hardcoded in the video, and then it doesn't matter how many times I turn it off or tell Youtube and my phone to keep them off, cus they'll reappear after every ad cut anyway.

Sometimes I want them there, because the audio is bunk or I'm chewing something, or watching it with no audio or in a noisy environment, and it'll just turn off after every ad cut, or will randomly get switched to a different language.

I wasn't a kid who asked for steel ingots, that's for sure.

To be fair, the article that you both responded to did basically format itself to be responded to in a very specific way. Like you pointed out, many of the arguments seemed almost preemptively defensive, like they knew beforehand what specific criticism they would get.
