Researching the history of housing and public health in Kingston upon Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire during the 19 & 20C.
Disappointed at failing to gain entry into St. Marys Church - Lowgate (Hull), I was immediately heartened when I stumbled upon a few wooden setts at the junction of Parliament & Alfred Gelder streets. Don't ever recall seeing others in the 'old town'.

Pity there wasn't gas street lighting a full moon and wet pavements!

At first glance they look like 1920s L.A. houses. But look a little closer. There's a great view of Scarborough's South Bay from those garden seats!

An enclave of LA houses built in Hull under the 1924 Housing Act, set amid poignantly named streets!

Kendal Town Hall, formerly the White (Cloth) Hall, converted in 1859 and extended in 1893. A new clock tower with 11 bells added & rung for the first time on the occasion of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897.

Clowes Buildings, Hull. Complete with shops built late 1920s. First post 1919 inner city development by the Corporation. Intended for those displaced prior to construction who worked locally and spurned or couldn't afford suburban isolation. Sadly, rents were beyond many of those offered a tenancy.
