Woodsman sketches! and Anna for fun (plus my concept for her "caged flame" self)

Woodsy was originally a little goofier, but I'm still pleased to have gone with the style in the final output. I think I found a decent balance between all four inspiration ideas listed.

Style concepts for the Woodsman and his daughter, Anna. The inspirations listed include: Worthiikids, Professor Layton, Junji Ito, and Moomin. I wanted to retain his cartoony-ness, but add an exaggerated flair to his details

Even though Anna doesn't show up in my shot, I am a little attached to her Moomin-style design I gave her, as well as her "caged flame" version that I thought would be fun to design. (Keep a lookout for those Moomin-style shots in the actual reanimated though, those animators are phenomenal!)

Sketch of the layout, to get a feel for the background. It's VERY off-center. It was originally going to be linocut style til I felt it would stylistically clash too much, and I wanted to play with Blender backgrounds instead in the end. But keep your eye out on some FANTASTIC linocut style shots in the reanimated!

Backdrop of the forest, painted in Rebelle. I was really inspired by Tyrus Wong's works. Even though the bg is the least striking part of the original shot, I really wanted to capture the moodiness of a winter night. Still yet alive, shapeless uncertainty, and quietly beautiful.

Before I knew it, I made an entire freaking cabin by myself. Look at this thing of beauty. So many ordeals were had. So many headaches caused. There are literally two suns in this scene. I love her.

I went for a low-poly look for sake of ease, and ngl I am pretty proud of how it came out!

Wire frame of the most beautiful cabin I've ever made so far. I didn't even NEED to make the chimney, but hubris said I could, so I showed her.

Cabin, textured generously and with semi-sore wrists. I think most of these textures were pulled from the LittleBigPlanet games, my beloveds.

Camera test shot. There's actually nothing inside the cabin, besides a hyper-glowing solar cube hanging out by the doorframe. I wanted to try adding a window too, even though the shot didn't have one, but I didn't quite have time to conceptualize how I would want it to look.

Taking on this shot doubled as an opportunity for my FIRST FORAY into Blender. I first ate up every tutorial on the program's basics and features (shoutout to CG Cookie) until I was ambitious enough to go all in on creating my assets. It was important for me to get hands-on in the learning process.

Random furniture I finagled with. The door would be the first step of many first steps.

D O O R K N O B. I actually ended up scrapping this one because I felt it had too many faces to deal with. It probably would've been fine in the end, but I still liked the idea of a low-poly look more.
