In 1814 when D.C. was burned are there any sermons about American's needing to repent to spare the country from God's wrath? "God save us from the 'Northmen'" and such parallels? Or does that require a little too much humility?

The more I work through the Scriptures that more I see that it is simple, and difficult. The closer I get to being like Jesus, the more I need to work on. THAT is what grace is about. And I understand how when the world is flipped around and God sets it right, there will be plenty of surprises.

Along the way I met people who tried to convince me that God's grace is about being forgiven and then getting culture to follow the church's path to power. This is the very thing that Jesus warned his followers against. How can people praying the psalms, reading the prophets, trusting Jesus miss it?
