@mattgalloway.bsky.social what a jerk on your show today. I sure hope you’re interviewing an expert who can counter his perspective that the whales at Marineland must be happy if they’re breeding.

Interesting that so far the most debate by far has been on the two child care resolutions. @ubcm.bsky.social
jmcelroy.bsky.social
The UBCM resolutions debates are always interesting and frustrating.

There are 122 separate resolutions brought forward.

But you have 800 politicians in a room, there’s a lot of talking, only 20% of the week is reserved for resolutions.

So less than half get debated.

More childcare spaces announced, but government can’t even keep existing ones open

Spaces closing on the Sunshine Coast were barely open one year

More press releases won’t distract from the failure to prevent closures by paying educators a fair wage & increasing staffing levels

But minister, 20 Sunshine Coast spaces are closing

BC can’t keep existing spaces

We need more than platitudes. We need a provincial wage grid

A tunnel collapse opened up a hole more than 60 feet deep in a Bangkok road Wednesday morning. The cause of the collapse appeared to be a water leak from a burst pipe in an unfinished extension of Bangkok's subway system, the city's governor said. nyti.ms/4gAY4Ke

Every time I come to Victoria I enjoy the gardens AND I’m horrified that horses are still pulling carriages on roads next to noisy dangerous traffic. Why is this outdated practice allowed to continue? @bcspca.bsky.social

Good morning from Victoria!

It is time for the annual Union of B.C. Municipalities convention, where every city and regional government gathers for a week to debate policy and lobby the province.

FEEL THE EXCITEMENT (but no honestly this is always such a fascinating week)

It's unfortunate that the Carney government thinks that only resource extraction and male-dominated sectors are worthy of "nation-building projects"

Quality, affordable child care based on a fairly paid workforce is a nation-building project

In February last year, BC’s Ministry of Forests wrote a letter telling CN rail it believed the company played a role in the fire that destroyed Lytton. It intended to seek costs.

Six weeks later, it reversed course and closed its file.

Global News laid off 26 journalists in B.C. and Alberta today.

In B.C. the layoffs include virtually all of the online team, along with many others.

The business is increasingly cruel, and the hollowing out of newsrooms providing fair and reliable information continues to suck.
