To clarify I mean that in coming up with a term to label them as a group, even in a derogatory sense, we accept that “AI” are entities capable of being labeled as humans are. I think this stems from the general chatbot formula of pretending to talk like a human which also bugs me.

No I gotchu, I get annoyed with it bc I know it’s from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and I can almost never bring this up because of how mainstream that term became lmaoo.

But fr I just feel like despite being used against AI, the term sneaks in the implication that AI are a distinct people/species

This is why I hate the “clankers” meme. As soon as I am convinced humans have built a truly sapient intelligent computer I’ll be on the frontlines for their rights, but we aren’t there yet, not close.

I work with deep learning models in genetics and I think they’re really neat. I would say I have a nuanced view on algorithms like this, but I cant stand calling them “AI.”

To me that’s a marketing scheme, tricks people into associating it with sci-fi and anthropomorphizing.

We have enough trouble with bigotry/racism when it has no biological basis, I just don’t want a genetic-engineered human overclass. I feel like that’s loosening a tether that’s barely holding the worst back as is

I don’t think people understand how big of a deal this could end up being. Look at how much bigotry and exclusion exists in our society today, and we’re all the same exact species! I don’t want to imagine what the worst of us will do if there is a separate sub-species for people to discriminate

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say if the vast vast majority (eg the wild-type, like 99.999% of humans) can be edited at once, equally, then it would be maybe ok, just expedited evolution. But that is very unlikely, any group of people left behind WILL become a second class
