New batteries arrived and now I remember why it was still in an old rucksack in a box of old rucksacks. I had gone flaky. Very crackly and not reliable at generating pure tones (wonder why, maybe dirt or a crack in pcb/track). It had been replaced but it was my favourite for years

If you ever stumble across any text files from CCUK BBS (Corrupt Computer UK) or Lightfinger's Place please let me know. afaik nothing (much) survives but then again I've just found something I lost decades ago so you never know.

The book was a bit meh as it was mostly regurgitating stuff that was easily available elsewhere but it did bring hacking into the mainstream. My mother wouldn't let me use the phone for a fortnight as she was scared that i'd get into trouble after she had a quick browse through it :)

if you can find a copy Beating the System by Owen Bowcott & Sally Hamilton is a good read. Published in 1990 iirc

I ended up consulting with a company he co-founded on Harley Street for a couple of years after I went there unannounced to warn them that i'd found out BT were looking for a way to prosocute him.
