The selection pool of under-educated candidates into the GOVERMENT [sic] circus—withUncle Sam posters being replaced with Stephan Miller posters—is certainly growing the volume of clowns with flamethrowers 🔥

MAGA is a diabolical orchestra—power profiteers and media charlatans performing in the pit—whilst a malleable audience, groomed to oblivion, pays an astronomical ticket price to watch an “opéra tragique” of their own fleecing.

Andrew Dominick (Director) was as poetically accomplished with the lens as Bono was gracious in his monologue of gero-transcendence. A love story as complex as it always was for U2—and happens to be for us mere mortals.

Rooftops in the Forbidden City in Beijing have a clay effigy of a man riding a chicken. It represents a disgraced or tyrannical official—a symbol of buffoonery and humiliation—strips the figure of honor and status, offering a permanent moral lesson to future generations.

Floods in Australia have increased < 1000% in 50 yrs - extreme weather events are rapidly accelerating. The Libs/Nats have chosen to deny, seed doubt, and proclaim action as pointless. There is no country better placed to demonstrate to the world how to rapidly transition. #auspol

Many parts of the world are adversely impacted by USA’s ~25% cumulative share of global CO₂ emissions. USAID had been supporting IIRI to introduce and scale improved germplasm and climate-smart agronomic practices to seeded rice. 🌾 We need to collectively protect our humanity

America is unrecognisable.

One compelling argument for renaming it.

I the early 90’s I rejected the idea that digital photography would replace my beloved celluloid. I was more diligent about the future of EV’s amidst a sea of deniers. More than half of all new cars in Europe are now EV/hybrid

The IPCC developed Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs) which are greenhouse gas concentration scenarios. They are used to project climate related changes. They successfully predicted +1.5° hotter, but it’s much quicker. Based on this trajectory, your kids will live at +4°C. #BadParenting

Given the scale and the scope of issues to be concerned about for Indonesian people, 52% worrying about corruption as their top three concerns is indicative of how rife it remains.
January 16, 2025 at 12:33 PM
Corruption is the ugly thread that is woven into the fabric of Indonesia’s beautiful people, place & culture. Most Indonesian people have little choice but to tolerate it and accept its harmful impacts on their lives.

The IPCC hinted at an increase in extreme weather events in the 1990 first assessment report (AR1). By AR2 in 1995 the data grew their confidence. 2001 was a turning point, & AR6 was unequivocal. It is daily headlines in 2025 and yet climate science denying politics is expanding its power globally.

There are probably some valid reasons why 25% of WA people travel to Bali every year. Cheap beer at the pool bar, cheap butterfly tattoo, endless traffic and pollution… but arguably, not for the beaches, sunset, or the pristine environment.

Unsustainable tourism concepts manifest in reality.

Australia’s total fertility rate (TFR) has been well below replacement rate (in the red) for 50+ years.

2050 Australia - without migration:
Average age 50+ 📈37
30% over 65 📈15%
15-44 yr olds decline 📉 (dependency ratio worsens)
Economic & social pressure on public service & healthcare systems.

America is enveloped in mass cognitive dissonance, confirmation biases, tribalism, sunk cost fallacy, denial & rationalization, herd mentality, and irrational attachment to a cult of of a narcissistic personality. 1000’s of lies, misdeeds, and broken promises will change nothing for most of them.

Indonesia leads the world in many things it shouldn’t be proud of, but this is a leaderboard worth celebrating. Yes, Indonesian people are overwhelmingly kind and giving.

“stunning comeback” is surprising capitulatory phrasing from @cnn.com after the US House Select Committee findings of dissemination of false claims, pressure on officials to act unlawfully, incitement of the mob, and inaction during the attack.

From 1972-1983 #MASH was one of the most brilliant & popular TV shows in history, with viewership of 15-25M per episode. 40 years later, and videos of pimples being popped have a viewership of 10 Billion.

These Acropora corals can take decades to grow and at least 8 Bangka Belitung island hopping boats with local tourists on snorkeling trips were anchored like this on one small reef … ropes ripping the coral in half.

Bangka Belitung is a spectacular island that is advancing towards irreparable ruin. 70% of its forests, 60% of its mangroves, and 5000 hectares of coral reefs are gone. A potential sustainable eco-tourism gold mine creating 1,000,000 jobs that will never be realised.
