This is a sewing pattern. It is also a page from a late 14th century manuscript that is one of two primary sources for an important Icelandic saga (Sturlunga saga), but that was probably not important to the 17th century person who really needed a sewing pattern.

after I saw the TV show Twin Peaks I came across the restaurant of the same name, which turned out to be a strangely erotic hunting lodge-themed sports bar. I was a single lesbian in Texas reading a book about neuroscience over my burger and beer and sometimes I still dream about that waitress.

1. Our models of the world are always wrong in important and dangerous ways.

2. The automated systems we build embed these models within them.

Therefore,

3. our automated systems are forever at risk at getting the world wrong in dangerous ways.

Look, I get why games websites do better security than average, but why is it easier to protect my third-party Magic Online trade binder with good 2FA than it is to protect my private health information with good 2FA? (I mean... I *get* it but also if you have a good explainer, I'm always open.)

There is no better representation of what the U.S. is than this story and it's not something Trump or any other rightwing nutcase came up with. No, this is happening in the bluest of States.
These teenagers and young men — 95% of whom are Black, Latinx, or Filipino — earn between $2.20 and $4 per hour, plus an additional $1 an hour when they’re actively fighting fires, according to the DJJ. ⤵️

Whitewashing the uncomfortable parts of the past doesn't just affect Black stories. For example, you can't fully appreciate how a peanut farmer from Plains, GA became a beloved president unless you know TRUE Black History.

The unwhitewashed history of Jimmy Carter:
