Reducing PM is better for people’s health but now under Trumps leadership EPA who should monitor pollution and protect the environment are gunning for more oil and gas production and higher permitable levels of pollution that will cause damage for decades

Pollution also worsens the severity of respiratory infections including flu and covid.

Over 10,000 pre-term births/year are attributable to PM from oil and gas and 216,000 childhood-onset asthma cases and 1,610 cancer cases to Oil and gas pollution in the States alone already
The health burden and racial-ethnic disparities of air pollution from the major oil and gas lifecycle stages in the United States
Largest total population health burden is from O&G end-use, but greatest relative disparities are linked to downstream activities.

This move is despite a WEALTH of research showing PM to damage health in a multitude of ways. PM contains a mix of soot and chemicals like polyarylhydrocarbons and PM especially when fine are inhaled, can enter the lungs and the blood circulation getting everywhere potentially

And those trying to defend their positions of let infection rip and get herd immunity by infection or saying but Sweden did well (it didn’t it had more fatalities than nearby Norway that did lockdown) are just full of shxt. Johnson’s et als actions cost lives and no amount of revision changes that 😡

I got covid at the start of lockdown and at times struggled to breathe but was equally frightened to ring for help. Friends n family were constantly messages me trying to understand what covid was And in utter fear

Meanwhile and horribly cases rose and rose and hospitals got fuller and fuller and quite frankly a lockdown was the only response to try and reduce new cases, let people be treated and try and sort the PPE/testing
November 26, 2025 at 8:21 AM
Universities and hospital labs already equipped and with staff adept at pcr and antibody testing were sidelined while private solutions sought so our testing capacity stalled and faltered so suspected community cases couldn’t be diagnosed further infection spread
November 26, 2025 at 8:21 AM
Johnson meanwhile was focused on his Brexit deal and holidays and the UK delayed actions as a result like kick starting efforts to procure PPE

Here is the thing we have to remember- early 2020 was terrifying. We had been seeing countries decimated with Covid and by Feb it was here with an under-resourced NHS still strained after years of austerity measures
The shameful attacks on the Covid inquiry prove it: the right is lost in anti-science delusion | Polly Toynbee
There is nothing wrong with questioning the mighty cost of the lockdowns, but we can’t let hardline libertarians rewrite Britain’s pandemic history, says Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee
